Today's on-track activity kicks off with a practice session (8:309:30 a.m.) followed by the Champ Car qualifying session (11:301:30 p.m.) that will determine the grid order for The 500 Presented by Toyota-Round 18 of the CART FedEx Championship Series. The weather in Fontana, California at 8:28 a.m. is 54° F and hazy with a 6 mph wind from the northeast. After two rounds of practice yesterday around the 2.029-mile superspeedway, #33 TAGLIANI (Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Reynard/Bridgestone) of Player's/Forsythe Racing remained on top of the speed charts at 31.252 seconds (233.726 mph). CART FedEx Championship Series Starter Jim Swintal waves the GREEN FLAG at 8:30 a.m. to open the weekend's third session of practice for the Champ Cars. YELLOW FLAG at 8:31 a.m., #12 BRACK spun and continued on the backstretch without contact exiting Turn 2. GREEN FLAG at 8:34 a.m. At 8:38 a.m., #39 ANDRETTI turns the fastest lap of the weekend at 31.236 seconds (233.846 mph) on his seventh lap. #27 FRANCHITTI immediately outdoes him for the top spot with a lap of 31.082 seconds (235.004 mph) on his seventh lap. #1 DA MATTA is running third early on, followed by #8 VASSER and #55 DOMINGUEZ. YELLOW FLAG at 9:03 a.m. for debris. GREEN FLAG at 9:06 a.m. At 9:09 a.m., #32 CARPENTIER moves to third on the speed chart with a lap of 31.095 seconds (234.906 mph) on his 25th lap. At 9:25 a.m., #10 KANAAN remains fastest, followed by #27 FRANCHITTI, #33 TAGLIANI, #32 CARPENTIER and #9 JOURDAIN. CHECKERED FLAG at 9:30 a.m. #10 KANAAN of Mo Nunn Racing paced the session with an orbit of 31.006 seconds (235.580 mph) on his 22nd lap, followed by #27 FRANCHITTI of Team KOOL Green at 31.082 seconds (235.004 mph) on his seventh lap and #33 TAGLIANI of Player's/Forsythe Racing at 31.087 seconds (234.966 mph) on his 42nd lap.
